Pattern is subtle and variegated; one can turn the scarf to get the lighter or darker areas in front. I bought this to liven up a plain black tunic, and it adds a lot of visual interest. Fabric is very soft and light against my neck but blocks wintry drafts -- perfect for what I needed. Scarf is quite large and can be billowy, but with a bit of work, one can roll or fold it to reduce the bulk. An excellent value, too!
