I wanted to love this. The size and capacity are exactly what I was looking for. It is well made but has a major design flaw. The slots for the knives are not cut deep enough on the top tier. There is about a 1/8 inch rise from where the handle lays to where the blade slot starts. If the slot was perfectly level with the handle surface this would not happen. My knives have pretty straight blades and they hit at the beginning of the slot where the handle butts up against the block. This causes the knives to angle up and not lay flat in the block. This causes all of the knife tips to stick up out of the block. I want to keep this block but now I need to find a way to cut all the slots on the top deeper near the handles. The block delivered is not the same design as in the picture. The picture shows the upper slots cut out all the way down but in reality they stop about 1/8 from the handle tier. I really don't want to return this, but it will take additional modifications to work for me. I hope the manufacturer makes improvements on the design. I ended up taking a circular saw and cutting the grooves deeper for the top slots. It was difficult to do, does not look perfect, but now at least the blades are covered when inserted.
