I use USB to connect electronic musical instruments in my recording studio. With a standard USB connection, if a cable gets stepped on, the USB port in the instrument can easily be damaged, rendering the instrument unusable. Although I'm pretty good at soldering in new USB ports now (after breaking two of them by stepping on cables), it is a lot easier to use one of these right angle USB adaptors instead. when the cable gets stepped on, the port is much less likely to break. The cable can disconnect at the adaptor, and the force exerted on the USB port on the instrument is much less due to the 90 Degree connection at the port.Note that instrument manufacturers orient the USB B port on their instruments in different ways, so make sure you pick the proper right angle adaptor: get the one that will point downward when inserted in your instrument's USB port.
