When you open the package, you can tell it's made from genuine leather. It has a wonderful smell and characteristic "imperfections" such as small scratches in a few places that you cannot avoid with leather. It gives it a charming, rustic, unique feel. I find it enchanting! The leather wraps around the entire outside and even flaps into the cover for extra protection. The string that encloses it is long and easily secured. The imprint on the front of a tree is well centered and devoid of defects. I started writing with felt tip pens, and they did not smear or bleed through the sturdy paper.
