I received one for Christmas 2018 bought from Bed Bath and the heat penetrated the material after less than 5 use. It was also very heavy on the shoulders. So I tried this one with the same expectation and I didn't have the same problem. I heated it for 2 min straight. And my microwave is more powerful than the one I use at work. I only needed 2.5 min to heat up a cup of hot cocoa compared to 3 min. So, I was cautious not to overheat the pad. But at 2 min, the heat wasn't enough for me so I would add another min or 30 secs. And pad is still good. I have used it more than 5 nights heating it 2x at night sometimes.
