They're thick, I don't really use them in my regular shoes but I guess I could. I do sometimes stick them in my hiking shoes and they've held up fine. However, I bought these to help warm my feet primarily at home during cold days when I'm walking around on our unheated floors. For that purpose they're absolutely fine. They haven't degraded but I've been careful and only washed them a few times so far.
