I ordered these because I saw Claire on Outlander wearing something just like it. I thought it would be very convenient to have your fingers opened to use your phone, etc. But I had never had anything like this that came all the way up to the elbows and I was so surprised at the warmth this gives you. When you put it over a shirt or jacket, it keeps any cold air from blowing up the sleeve and keeps your whole upper body and arms warmer. I found myself actually not needing a jacket sometimes because just my shirt with these gloves proved enough. I can't go back to regular gloves now. This is far preferable and why people ever stopped using these gloves of a bygone era, I have no idea! Super practical. Note that it does have a slit through which you can put your thumb and although this keeps your hands warmer, I think it contributes to the gloves sliding down. I most often don't use the thumb hole and pull the overall glove an inch higher and then they stay up.
