The very second the interior pouch is broken - via squeezing through the exterior bag - the ice pack turns VERY cold. Happens instantaneously - this is an instant cold pack.Wasn't sure at first how to activate - instructions are clear on the back but I felt pressing so hard on the interior pouch would also damage the outer bag.
