These are cool. They do look like real candles until you get very close to them. There is a little LED light on one side that shines onto a waving piece of plastic to make the flame. If you have them near the wall with the light closest to you there will be shadows cast onto the wall, like in my video. If you don't like that then turn the candle 180 degrees so the light shines from behind.User guides for both the candles and remote are included, although operation seems pretty intuitive. Each candle takes two AA batteries, which are not included. I use Eneloop rechargeables. I prefer using my own rechargeable batteries instead of USB recharging. If a USB rechargeable battery goes bad the candle is finished because it can't be replaced. There is no downtime with AA batteries for recharging either, just swap in another set.These are supposedly suitable for outdoors. I might take them outside for an evening gathering, but wouldn't leave them out in the open all the time. I'd be concerned about water and bugs getting into the hole where the flame and light are. Perhaps if they were in an enclosed lantern it would be okay. If I did keep them outdoors I would use Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries since they are made to endure outdoor conditions.The only things I don't like are the price and the battery compartment door. It seems high to me at $69.99 for two candles, but if they last a longer time than others it will be worth it. I found the battery compartment door very difficult to get open. Because of these two issues, I give them them 4.5 stars, rounded to 5.
