The slats are just close enough to provide marginal privacy, depending upon your level of privacy definition. Not enough to parade around your pool nude when the neighbors are out next door lol. But, it does give a sense of privacy and create an attractive barrier. Biggest complaint we had, is we tried to support it with standard 6' T metal posts, every 6.5' and the fence simply isn't strong enough to withstand 15 hours of 25-30 MPH winds. It stated tearing apart. Then I tried to weave an 18 gauge steel wire across the top to give a little extra support, but that still allowed some over stretching and tearing. Maybe if I had woven the 18 gauge wire in both the top and bottom while installing, it might have survived. Or perhaps put a T post every 4.5' . However, at that point, you've spent enough effort and money to buy the 6'x8' wide full bamboo stalk panels for $70 from the big orange box store. That's our plan as we expand our pool area.
