It is no surprise that for the price, this is not a thick pad. The top fabric that touches the skin is cotton, the rest polyester. However, it is a quality item, nicely made with better fabric for the skirt part than others I have. It comes in a real nice zipper case made of fabric and plastic with a handle, that can be used for storage or something else. As it is not thick like I was looking for to top an older mattress for company, I put it on top of the old mattress pad and with the two it really isn't bad as far as adding a bit of padding. For the price it would be hard to find one at all, let alone one as good a quality. It's just not thick padding if that is what you are looking for.
