These are so soft and stretchy. I'd say they straddle the line between underwear and outerwear. For my own tastes, they're a little too clingy to wear on their own (unless I'm wearing an open button-down shirt over them). They tend to show every bulge and ripple. But the darker colors are opaque enough that they could be worn alone. I usually wear them under other summer tops that are too sheer on their own or as pajama/lounge wear inside the house. Regardless, I love them enough that I've bought a second pack and am now considering buying a third.
