Thankfully I had the foresight to order this when my new table was scheduled for delivery. I cannot count the crazy stuff that has been dropped, spilled, splattered, or smashed into this cover by my 4 children and easily wiped away instead of stressing out about the table surface and finish. I love this too because it is clear. Though it is not the same as the bare wood for enjoying the grain of the wood and the sheen of the finish; it does allow the natural color to come through adding that warm wood glow to the dinning room.
