The satin black paint is nice. The finish of the wood and paint is smooth. This is assembled differently than another shelf I already own. Each dowel has end pieces pushed into the wood to accept a screw and the handle is short and screws into the top dowel (see pictures). It’s not super sturdy and I would worry about picking this up by the handle. The way I prefer it to assemble is with the handle being a long metal rod that goes all the way through the two dowels and having a wing nut at the bottom. That would also guarantee the the shelves are straight. My has a lean to it.
