4 thin coats, kinda streaky. Doesn't level like regular polish, but that's the point lol. I think I prefer thin coats of regular gel. I'm sure this has its uses, or takes more practice. I'm pretty good at polishing my nails though. As of this writing, it's just ok.Pic, please excuse my calloused palm, the pinky is the square container gel. The other fingers are the modelones gel sheer that I went over when trying the square box, I did those last week. You can see the brush stroke heights in the pinkie. It didn't smooth out with clear. Maybe good for shorter nails and shorter strokes or maybe nail art?This regular gel is incredible though, it doesn't peel, chip or bubble. Wish I tried it before buying 10 bottles of expensive regular polish. Gel lasts until grown out, I've too much nail polish now. I use clear gel and then polish over it with regular polish, to use up the regular polish. My free time no longer revolves around my nails. Hard to get used to, quite honestly. Acetone doesn't even touch the shiny top coat of the gel. I take off the regular polish and am left with a still perfect gel coat of clear, or sheer gel nails. Amazing. It is redefining how I approach my nails completely.Update: I have determined I prefer the regular gel. Thin coats, no flooding, better leveling. Especially if you don't cure immediately. Let it sit for a minute, it levels a bit. The square box is probably good for actual nail art. It just doesn't level, stays where you put it and has height if you want it. Like a real painting lol.
