We bought this humidifier to replace a simple ultrasonic one, because after 1 night with the old humidifier we woke up with a cold. There is no such problem with this, since the steam that comes out of the device is the result of boiling water, and not "breaking into small particles", as with an ultrasonic one, and all bacteria and particles that could be in the water remain in the humidifier, but don't spread all over the place. During operation, due to warm steam, the temperature in the room rises significantly, but the humidity does not rise to cosmic levels. During the heating period, the air is very dry here, the humidity is exactly below 20%. During the night, the humidifier at maximum power consumes a full tank of water and raises the humidity level to a maximum of 35%; him was chilled, which was uncomfortable. The device itself heats up quite strongly, but not to such an extent as to get a serious burn from touch or from the steam coming out (if you bring your hand to the tube itself, where the steam comes from), but it will be unpleasant for sure. During operation, it hisses (boils water), but it certainly does not interfere with sleep, again, comparing with ultrasonic, from which there was an unpleasant annoying hum.
