To use, click it by pushing down the clear stem.

I have no idea what the parts of the pen are called and was trying to figure out how to get it to work. Finally I pushed down on the clear stem of the pen and wa-la! I wrote with it and it writes just like any other pen and the clear knob on top is the eraser, works awesomely and will save my envelopes when I goof on an address! Yay! So happy to have this pen! It's a good one!
