We are in the middle of a remodel and I needed a way to get notified when the workers outside needed something from me. I got this doorbell and attached the bell near the front door with the sticky back option. This location is outside, but under the eaves, not in direct rain or wind. It has held on with no problems. The black model I got also had a small "window" under the bell where I could write a very short note ("RING BELL") to bring attention to the bell, or to identify a unit, if you need that. It was handy to have that and most of the other colors don't have it. With the black housing it helps also just to be able to put a bright color under the window to draw people's eye to the bell (in lieu of building something yourself outside the bell).The ringer has been located 1 story and about 25' deep (at the back of house) away from the plug in unit and worked fine.The inside unit can be placed anywhere there is a plug, so we have moved it around as areas of the house are decommissioned or power goes out. The volume on the ring can be adjusted to a very loud setting (if it is located near you, I found it too loud) or a quieter one.There are MANY chimes. Too many for me but there's an bell to suit any taste. It is nice to have the option of a short bell, if its where you know you'll hear it, to a longer one that gives you time to hear it if you are farther away or have competing noises. I think that's one of the best things about this--the options for different lengths of ring tones.The other great thing about this is the simple, plug and play set up. Truly, all we did was plug it in. If I wanted to change the ring tone, I'd have to read the instructions. But I hate to read instructions and didn't have to just to get it going and serve its purpose. I would recommend this and consider buying additional units if needed.
