On my gear selector, the button couldn't be pressed down far enough to allow gear shifts, so I had to had a quarter underneath the button. Basically, I push the button, which pushes a quarter, which pushes the gear selector shaft, thus, allowing me to shift gears.Keep the Allan Key handy, I noticed after some use, it can get a bit wobbly so you'll want to tighten it up every once and a while.
