I wanted a pet place-mat that was dishwasher safe and easier to keep clean. These 12x12-inch pads are sturdy, non-slip, flexible, and dishwasher safe.Because they're smaller than the usual pet mat, I place them with one corner pointing at the cat, rather than square side on, so that the cat has as much space as possible to drop food and crumbs without messing up the floor.Our OLD ones (3 of them) were the typical cute plastic 12x18 mats, and you had to clear the counter to make enough room to swab them down and let them dry. It was too much trouble, so I would leave them on the floor for days; weeks. One of our cats is a scavenger so all the crumbs got licked up, but it really wasn't good for my pets' health.Now when the meal is done, I pickup the mat and dish together. The mat can be rinsed of crumbs, or spots soaped and rinsed, or the whole thing can be completely washed off as needed. The ridged top takes a while to dry, but stand it up in the drainer and they're dry by the next meal time.RE: Dishwasher: unfortunately they are too tall to stand up in our little dishwasher. But they are so flexible that we bent them in half over the tines in the dishwasher rack, taking up two plate slots instead of one, and they washed just fine.Love 'em!
