I ordered these to hang in place of a closet door and they are fairly sheer so that you kind of see what's on the other but I am very happy with them. I would assume that if hung on a window they would allow light to shine in but would probably be more opaque if hung on a wall. My curtains didn't have any bald spots but when I hung them up quite a few loose sequin and threads fell on to the floor. Overall, I am really happy with them. I installed these for many different customers and all of have loved the way they look.They are easy to install and much cheaper than most others on the market. At $3/foot and add tape light at $2/foot together making only $5/foot that is extremely cheap. Most lighting companies charge $30/foot for the tape light alone without this channel. None of my crystals were broken, I dropped one while hanging them and it broke, but there were 4 extras so it was fine. I have never installed a light fixture before. It was very simple, the instructions were not super helpful but it was common sense and I got it installed just fine by myself! The crystals took a couple hours to hang and they included 2 white gloves for this. I watched a movie while doing and it was fine. I have to say I am really impressed and would recommend!
