This is either a granite-like stone or concrete that is light gray, almost white, and has been DYED black on all but the bottom surface. This is not a cosmetic issue, it indicates that the material had to be disguised. Real granite is used for surface plates because it is dimensionally stable and resists wear, who knows what this thing is? The paper backing is so terribly thin it shredded as you try and remove it. Nothing worse then trying to pull strands of paper from an 8 foot piece of semi sticky material that only wants to stick to itself.Compare it to trying to find that starter piece of scotch tape that you can’t get started. We haven’t installed these yet but have been looking/researching for a while for mother of Pearl tile, and have purchased from this seller, the Art3D brand (that they sell at a lot of places), and also the one they carry at the big box Floor & Decor store. For the price, these are great. I liked that they had a slightly whiter color than the Art3D, however I would say that some of the corners of the small tiles in the sheet are not square (like slight chips or just the natural imperfections). The only positive aspect of this product is the unisex design, but that hardly matters when your safety is at stake.
