These brakes are all most people are ever going to need if you are just a casual mountain biker keeping your speed reasonably low. I do ride a little bit of downhill and these brakes perform great and don't fade/overheat for what i use them for. I am on an old 26" wheel full suspension bike for some context. Some of the newer bikes with the larger diameter wheels may need better brakes for downhill riding. These are basic entry level brakes but they do what they're supposed to and do it well.
