I'm a senior citizen and usually wear a size 10. I'd say the size Large in this item is equal to size 10-12 in clothing. It is long, but I just fold the bottom under a bit until it is a few inches above my swim suit. It stays in place even after a vigorous hour in water aerobics. If you'd use it for sun blocking it would completely cover a swim suit and I am 5' 7" tall. The front zip makes it easy to remove after classes. Dries quickly. Sleeve gussets in the underarm area allow easy arm movement. Exactly what I wanted.
