The Carterjett 38mm Nylon Nato band for the Apple Watch arrived today, and after having examined and worn it for a while, my overall impression is pretty good, but I'm disappointed in a couple of aspects. First, the quality is top notch. The workmanship seems excellent and the materials are of high quality. The nylon strap is 1.55mm (or .060") thick, which is a good compromise between heft and flexibility. The stitching is precise and the holes for the buckle are perfectly circular.it appears that they were punched properly and heat treated to avoid fraying. Installation was a breeze. The overall impression is one of good quality. Also, I have to say that it's a good looking strap. I like the look better than Apple's rubbery sport strap.So why am I a little disappointed? My qualms have to do with a couple of design choices that were made. First, the designers seem to have missed the fact that one feature of a NATO-style band is to have the buckle on the side of the wrist rather than on the bottom. The buckle end of the strap should be short enough that the buckle stays to the side and not trapped between the wrist and whatever it's resting on. With this strap, if your hand is resting on a flat surface the buckle is poking the bottom of your wrist. Second, of the two rings that are provided, one is properly anchored by being sewn into the sandwiched nylon strap (as you can see in the picture). The second ring, however is not captured, but is free to slide back and forth. In this configuration it really doesn't perform any useful purpose and I'm considering cutting it off to avoid having it wander up and down the strap.Overall I wish I could have awarded 3.5 stars. The workmanship, materials and good looks tipped the balance to four. If you buy this band I think you'll be very happy if you can live with a couple of design shortcomings.
